Recycling Mandatory Commercial Recycling – AB 341
California State Law AB 341 (2011) requires businesses that generate 4 or more cubic yards of waste per week and multi-family complexes with 5 or more units to implement recycling programs. For more information about the mandatory commercial recycling law, visit CalRecycle’s website.

Organics Recycling
Organic waste materials (Organics) means food waste, green waste, landscape and pruning waste, nonhazardous wood waste, and foodsoiled paper waste that is mixed in with food waste.
AB 1826: Mandatory Organics Recycling
Business that generates 2 cubic yards of garbage per week (total for trash, recycling and organics), shall arrange for organic waste recycling services.
AB 827: Solid waste: commercial and organic waste: recycling bins.
Requires businesses to provide customers with recycling and/or organics recycling collection bins or containers to collect recyclable material generated from products purchased on the premises.
SB 1383: Short-Lived Climate Pollutant
2020 – 50% reduction in landfilled organic waste
2022 – Regulation take effect
2025 – 75% reduction in landfilled organic waste
2025- 20% of currently disposed edible food for human consumption
Enforcement requirements for non-complaint generators.
Only Compostable BPI-approved bags are allowed in the food waste bin.
BPI certifies the bags meet: ASTM D6400 or ASTM D6868 standards to effectively compost in a commercial composting system.
Ask your supplier for BPI Certified Compostable Bags. They must have this logo on the box or product.
