Landfills do not generate revenue once they have been closed to the public and stop receiving waste. However, costs do continue to exist for these sites. SVR has set as a goal to find ways to generate revenue from its closed landfills.
Currently, steps are being taken towards landfill gas-to-energy and solar energy projects at the Lewis Road and Crazy Horse Landfills.
The Jolon Road Landfill is also closed and a portion of the property is leased for cattle grazing.
