Salinas-Area Materials Recovery Center Siting Study

To further reduce our dependence on landfilling, the Board of Directors has made development of our new materials recovery center a priority in our current three-year (2013-16) strategic plan. This new facility is proposed to include all our current public services and programs, and space to support a potential public/private partnership with Global OrganicS Energy (GOE) to develop a “Clean Fiber Recovery System” previously referred as the Autoclave Project. Various sites are being considered including the existing Sun Street facility. Recent actions by the Monterey Bay Area Managers Group have placed this siting study on hold until the release of a county-wide solid waste system study is completed. SVR’s Citizen Advisory Group provided a recommendation on the facility siting in 2014.
